It wasn’t there 10 minutes ago when I opened the door to our porch to let the cool air in. Then the warm glowing light of sunset caught my attention. I went out, stunned by the transformation. This is one of the many reasons why I love this Land of Enchantment.
After the brief rain in the afternoon, the sun showed its face only for a short period of time. The plants outside looked fresher and greener. The air seemed cooler than inside as well. I opened up some windows, hoping that cross air would make the inside temperature feel more comfortable.
Blame it on jet lag then. Today went by so fast unproductively. I have a hard time remembering anything that I’ve accomplished.
These two days since we came back from Australia have been stressful for no particular reasons. And the unpleasant high temperature is tough for my companion. This afternoon when I went to check our mailbox, I found our chamisa which I planted the year after we move here is dead. Its gentle green has turned into color of yellow dust. I felt sad, exhausted and tied of it all..
Today for me was a busy day that went by in a daze. We collected mail from the postal office, bought groceries and had a late lunch before we headed home. Then I was on the computer backing up all the photos from our trip to two different devices. (I’m a bit paranoid about losing any of my photos..) Almost the whole day I was somewhat in a daze. I knew it must be the jet lag, so I pressed on and tried to ignore it.
It was a really warm day. After the sunlight had weakened, I went out and walked around the house. That’s when I noticed that our agave is about to bloom..
We left Brisbane on Sunday, July 19th at around 11 AM and we arrived at San Francisco International Airport on the same day at 7:15 AM. So we arrived before we even left?
If you have been following, yes, this is basically the same shot as the image I posted when we first arrived in Brisbane. Except I captured today’s image when the sun just rose. I could almost feel the warmth of the gentle morning sunlight lit the frames of the Story Bridge.
We will be returning home tomorrow morning. Due to the time difference, I’ll have plenty of time preparing and composing Sunday’s daily post when we get home.
So good night, Brisbane. Good night, Australia. It truly has been a pleasure getting to know you.
A visit to Long Pine Koala Sanctuary, a ride on the Wheel of Brisbane, The Merry Widow operetta at the Sydney Opera House, and a Sydney Harbour sunset cruise.. My companion had surprised me over and over again during this whole trip in Australia. What he unknowingly made happen was an unplanned meeting with a Mastodon “friend” of mine. It was such a wonderful encounter that my companion himself felt immediately connected.
Although it was merely a two hours conversation over coffee, everything felt so easy and comfortable. There’s no more need to put quotation marks on that word..
We said goodbye to Sydney this morning and hello again to Brisbane. We are staying at the same hotel so it almost feels like home since we’re quite familiar with everything here.
While we were in Sydney, my companion said that this would be one country he could see us live in. It’s hypothetical, of course. But it makes me wonder if he has ever thought about moving and living in a different city..
We will never know, but yesterday’s missing the cruise might have been the best thing ever happened. Even though we had to pay extra for rebooking, today’s sunset sightseeing cruise felt like a perfect conclusion to our journey in Sydney.
Good Night, Sydney. It’s been a wonderful experience exceeding expectations. It’s a long, tiring journey to get here. Will we ever come back here? I won’t close that door just yet..
Spending time leisurely in Brisbane and now Sydney has somewhat disoriented me. The amount of Asian population, to me anyway, is surprisingly high. That’s one thing I did not anticipate before I arrived in Australia. Casually walking on the street, the languages I heard and recognized include English, Mandarin, Japanese and Korean. The faces that I came across were also giving me the illusion that I was somewhere in Asia. What a world we live in!
