I was in good spirit, did my Español lesson religiously after breakfast, then sat on the porch reading a book while watching incense burn.     It’s yet another hot summer day that the temperature reached low 90°F. Towards afternoon, clouds got thicker and the sun disappeared. We came back home from town and I saw the currently flowering agave. It’s beautiful, and at the same time it dampened my mood. I brought my camera and captured this image..

    Have you ever taken a closer look at Bluebeard flowers? It always blows my mind looking at those delicate, intricate shapes and forms. Not to mention the color, which has always been my favorite when it comes to plants.

    Today a friend whom we haven’t heard from for almost two years sent me a long email. It once again reminded me how impermanent everything is. At one point I was ready to let go of this friendship since it felt like a one way effort.

    A missing card in the mail. That was the cause of a whole chain of doubts. Received his message this morning certainly made my day. All the memories came rushing back into my head..

    New Beginning Awaits

    Although today’s temperature continues to be oppressively hot, I feel light and without restraint. That invisible heavy weight has vanished. While my companion was resting in our bedroom with the AC on, I sat alone outside on the porch watching the sunset slowly turn into night. It’s so beautiful.. and my heart is full of gratitude and hope.

    Today I dug out my old tele lens from the closet and tried it on my Nikon Z fc. I needed an adapter, which I have purchased when I bought the camera. However I have never used it until now. Headed out on the porch, what would be the ideal subject? Those goldfinches, of course. They are our frequent visitors and it calms me every time I see them.

    Lower half of our agave flowers are fully bloomed now. This agave, as I probably have mentioned before, is too young to bloom in my opinion. Its flowering stalk stands only about seven feet tall. Still, it stands straight and reaches the sky as high as it can.

    Remember the farm windmill I mentioned a while ago? I was thrilled that the community finally replaced it and went there often just to admire it. About two months ago we noticed that the windmill was gone. At the time we thought it needed repair and would be back up spinning again soon. Everybody here knows how unpredictable and wicked strong the wind can be in Eldorado. I start to think that it’d never be back..

    A Rather Quiet Day.

    In order not to let the parcel exposed to the heat outside of our door, my companion wanted to wait till he had it before going out to do some planned shopping. He got a message that said it’d be delivered between 1:30 to 3:30pm. Then another message saying between 5:30 to 7:30pm. When it finally was delivered at 7:42pm, it was delivered to a wrong address..

    So we wasted the whole day waiting for the parcel and never left the house.

    The image was captured shortly before sunset, when I felt I could no longer stay inside although outside temperature was still around 85°F..

    Another Beginning of an End

    Do you know that this particular type of agave, commonly known as the century plant, once they bloom, they die soon afterwards?

    This morning when I dragged our recycling bin to the curb, I noticed that some of the flowers are opening. This is our second agave that has bloomed. I still get this mixture of happy and sad feeling.. “Soon it will be dead..” I said to myself. “but it certainly is putting on a great show.”
