  • Standing Tall Fabulously

Lower half of our agave flowers are fully bloomed now. This agave, as I probably have mentioned before, is too young to bloom in my opinion. Its flowering stalk stands only about seven feet tall. Still, it stands straight and reaches the sky as high as it can.

  • Another Beginning of an End

Do you know that this particular type of agave, commonly known as the century plant, once they bloom, they die soon afterwards?

This morning when I dragged our recycling bin to the curb, I noticed that some of the flowers are opening. This is our second agave that has bloomed. I still get this mixture of happy and sad feeling.. “Soon it will be dead..” I said to myself. “but it certainly is putting on a great show.”

  • A Fuzzy, Busy First Day

Today for me was a busy day that went by in a daze. We collected mail from the postal office, bought groceries and had a late lunch before we headed home. Then I was on the computer backing up all the photos from our trip to two different devices. (I’m a bit paranoid about losing any of my photos..) Almost the whole day I was somewhat in a daze. I knew it must be the jet lag, so I pressed on and tried to ignore it.

It was a really warm day. After the sunlight had weakened, I went out and walked around the house. That’s when I noticed that our agave is about to bloom..

  • Beauties and Beasts

They never stood a chance. The first few cactus flowers were devoured by ants and bees soon after they were opened. I captured this image an hour ago and am pretty sure these flowers would be gone by the end of the day. I didn’t dare to get too close as there were bees having their feast. Perhaps I should locate where my tele lens is..

  • Small Wonders

These tiny white flowers are all over the place in our neighborhood. I couldn’t resist interrupting my walk today and capturing these small wonders*.

    * I believe they are Rose Heath (Chaetopappa Ericoides) and they seem to be extremely hardy..

  • Cherry Has Blossomed.

My companion had a scheduled physical therapy this afternoon. After driving him there, I went for a walk in the neighborhood. It’s hard to miss the massive pink trees. Most of the cherry trees in the area have bloomed. It was wonderful being immersed in pink. The world was undeniably beautiful, at least for a moment..
