  • All Equal but Not The Same

Often I think about why for some people the idea of that we are all equal is so difficult to grasp. When common sense and mutual respect no longer exist, what is there that could unite people? The world seems to have lost its moral compass and people are increasingly becoming more self-centered. Are we headed toward societal collapse?

  • Urban Forest

Sights like this are common in Taiwan. They are generally welcomed as long as they are within their own property and are not causing problems of any sort.

We have a few pots of various plants on our apartment’s front balcony. We truly enjoy the greenery when we look out through the French window. However, there are flocks of birds gathering on the branches every single day. Hearing bird chirping is nice most of the time, but the droppings are becoming a problem. Now I wish there was a way to keep the birds away from visiting our balcony.

  • Anonymous Public Announcement

Today I found this hand-written note attached to a cardboard box at our small community park. What it says is basically asking whoever is here to practice common courtesy and keep the park clean. We probably will never know if this sign has any kind of impact, but I applaud the effort.

  • Silenced Messages

Today I wandered further away from home, hoping to find something different. I came across this metal siding painted in white. There were business phone numbers and messages on it, which now have been painted over. It’s almost as if they were being silenced, whatever the information or message used to be there.

  • A Picture Worth a Thousand Words..

I had a hard time coming up with the title for today’s choice of image. I try not to be presumptuous or pre-judgmental about what I saw at a nearby park this morning. It appeared to me that the caregiver was video chatting cheerfully with someone on her phone while the old woman whom she was supposed to take care of was left alone sitting in a wheelchair under the sun.

It’s very possible the caregiver was having a break while the old woman was getting her beneficial sun exposure. However, I couldn’t help but wondering what if the sun was too hot and the old woman couldn’t voice her discomfort? How long would it take till the caregiver pay attention and notice it?

The reality is that for many people it is a job that makes a living. But would it make a difference if they were caring for their own family?

  • Pretty, Pretty Pink.

There’s no hidden meaning here. I simply love the pink color of these stacked up containers.

  • Under Construction.

Yet another high rise residential building in the neighborhood. Once the tallest building in the area, three decades later we are now basically the oldest and almost the shortest apartment building around here.

    How time flies..

  • Colors of the Evening.

Random snapshot of the neighborhood this evening. I’m attracted by the colors, not by the business depicted. I never understand the allure of betel nuts. It’s the same with cigarettes. I’ve never tried them and have no intention to, ever.

    Any thoughts?

  • Simple Pleasures Vending Machines.

7-Eleven vending machines at a metro station in Kaohsiung. Pretty nice selection. You certainly won’t starve if you ever find yourself stuck inside the station.

Still I have to wonder how profitable these vending machines can actually be..

  • Lost in Emptiness.

We were literally steps away from our building, but Mom needed to rest a bit. While she was sitting there, I captured a few images of her and the surroundings. There were moments her mind seemed to be somewhere else. As to where, no one could tell..

Lost in Emptiness. That’s what I imagine her world is like. It scares me tremendously, but I try not to think about it..
