Today I received the new lens I ordered for my Nikon Zfc. I really love the shallow depth of field it creates. This new lens is ideal for street photography, but as you might have known already, my main interest is portraiture. Before I could find willing subjects, I guess I’ll be testing this lens for still life.
Do you know what these are?
These are dead leaves of the agave that died last year. We never got rid of it. It’s still sitting there with its stalk standing tall and all the dried flowers on top of it. We see it as an art piece in our garden. Like a statue, almost. Let’s see how long we get to enjoy its beauty.
Have you ever taken a closer look at Bluebeard flowers? It always blows my mind looking at those delicate, intricate shapes and forms. Not to mention the color, which has always been my favorite when it comes to plants.
Lower half of our agave flowers are fully bloomed now. This agave, as I probably have mentioned before, is too young to bloom in my opinion. Its flowering stalk stands only about seven feet tall. Still, it stands straight and reaches the sky as high as it can.
Today I finally repotted the Pine Cone Cactus that were used to be in two small pots. I received them a few years ago in a small USPS padded envelope from a friend in California. They really looked like pine cones before they turned greener once I planted them in pots. Because of the low temperatures in Santa Fe, I always had them inside the house. But the reality is that they need direct sunlight, which is why they barely grew. Now they have been repotted in a larger pot, they will stay outside till the weather gets colder.
Sights like this are common in Taiwan. They are generally welcomed as long as they are within their own property and are not causing problems of any sort.
We have a few pots of various plants on our apartment’s front balcony. We truly enjoy the greenery when we look out through the French window. However, there are flocks of birds gathering on the branches every single day. Hearing bird chirping is nice most of the time, but the droppings are becoming a problem. Now I wish there was a way to keep the birds away from visiting our balcony.
