  • Cauliflower Salad

Pretty sure we’re not alone, but we tend to consume more when we travel. It’s part of the experience even though we don’t always opt for local cuisine.

Today’s dinner was at a French restaurant where we had to book in advance. Their Cauliflower Salad stood out and was truly delicious. The ingredients seemed simple enough for us to attempt making it when we get home next week.

  • A Bowl of Homesick

Every beginning of the month, I have to make an online transfer to pay for Mom’s long term care service. So that’s what I did this afternoon. Then suddenly I had this craving for the chicken soup that my Mom used to make. Thanks for Whole Foods, I was able to find daikon. The ingredients were simple. It didn’t take long to prepare. I cooked rice separately, only added it to the soup before I was ready to eat.

My companion liked it as well, although he only wanted carrots and daikon; no chicken thighs meat.

“You look so happy.” my companion said.

I just smiled, and thought about my Mom..

  • Aging and Getting Sort of Homesick

I realize that I’ve been eating a lot more Asian food lately. It seems the older I get, the more I crave for dishes that resemble what I had when I was younger. They remind me of my motherland and, of course, my mother. She lives by herself even though she has dementia; in my mind an embarrassing situation for my family. Nobody seems to be willing to take on the responsibility. In some ways including myself, I suppose..

  • Instant Nostalgic Noodle

It seems the older I get, the more frequently I crave for food I grew up with..

  • Leftover Curry

Tonight I spent a little more time than necessary to prepare for my dinner: I made an omelette to wrap the rice for the three-days-old leftover curry. Only after I’ve captured this image and had my first bite, I realized that I forgot to sprinkle some Japanese spices over it.

  • Daily Breakfast Routine

What do you usually have for breakfast?

My breakfast, other than a cup of coffee prepared by my companion, it usually consists of a bowl of cereal. Once in a while I would add fresh fruit to it like I did this morning.

  • Baked Eggplant

Bear in mind that I’m no good at cooking. It was a total improvisation, but it turned out quite good. A bit salty for my taste, but my companion actually liked it after one bite.

  • Everyday is Christmas in Santa Fe.

    Smothered Burrito at Harry’s Roadhouse.

I apologize for today’s post. I tried to avoid posting food pictures. I wasn’t myself most of the day today and had no energy to go out for a walk. Hopefully a good night sleep will bring back my normal self.
