  • Happy and Pride

We left home later than we initially planned. The parade was already over by the time we arrived at the plaza. Truth be told, I was still pondering whether we should go or not after breakfast. So it wasn’t a surprise that we missed the whole parade. Still, I managed to capture some images. As always, we left the event prematurely and left me wishing we could have stayed longer.

Happy Pride. Happy and Pride. Sometimes you simply cannot have them both.

  • Where It All Began

Today we went for a walk in the Casa Solana neighborhood. It was my companion’s idea and it wasn’t the first time we returned to that area, because this is where we jointly decided that Santa Fe would be our new hometown almost eight years ago..

  • Information Overload

Today has been a somewhat strange day. We did all our Sunday routine and yet I felt the whole day has been wasted. I’m having a mild headache while I’m writing this. I think I’d call it a day..

  • Silent Protest

I knew they are out there. I knew there are plenty of people who feel the same as I do. May that be angry, disappointed, disgusted, pessimistic, heartbroken, helpless or even lost, deep down I’m still holding onto that almost nonexistent sense of hope. I needed reassurance. That’s one reason why I needed to be there, to be part of this peaceful protest, to see the faces of strangers who are exactly on the same boat.

Accidentally, I spotted a familiar face in the crowd. He works at our local hardware store and we’ve only exchanged a few words since we moved here. Suddenly our eyes met and he recognized me. He moved towards me and extended his hand.

“Good to see you here.” I smiled and said to him, while I shook his hand with a firm grip.

  • Jazzy Afternoon

In anticipation of tomorrow’s destructive strong winds, we decided to move our usual Sunday routine ahead of time by one day. My companion did his walk in the neighborhood and I my 5K run. After a shower, we went into town to have a somewhat late lunch at Iconik Red on Cerrillos Road. Upon arrival, there was Jazzy live music playing, which was a really pleasant surprise. My companion doesn’t care much about Jazz, but we stayed longer than usual because he knows that I do..

Here’s to the next 33 years..

  • Balancing Act

Our decorative birdhouse has been blown down by the wicked wind in Eldorado. Tumbleweeds are scattered all around the house and it seems no use to collect them just yet.

The house we live in is a rather large one for two people and I know my companion needs help maintaining specially when I’m not around. The past two years I’ve been spending a lot more time in Taiwan taking care of my Mom and the apartment she lives in. During these trips he always assured me that he’d be fine by himself and he could take care of himself and the house. Perhaps it may be true, but I’m well aware that I should be taking care of him as well.

Both my Mother and my companion are certain age now. As the years progress it has become clear and clear that they both need assistance in different ways and degrees in their lives. I’ve felt guilty leaving my companion alone while I was seven-thousand miles away taking care of my Mother. How could I make sure and do a decent job on both sides? The worst could happen would be that I failed both at the end.

It has become a balancing act that I’m trying to maneuver with the best I can..

  • Everyday is Christmas in Santa Fe.

    Smothered Burrito at Harry’s Roadhouse.

I apologize for today’s post. I tried to avoid posting food pictures. I wasn’t myself most of the day today and had no energy to go out for a walk. Hopefully a good night sleep will bring back my normal self.
